Wenona College
Creating space within tight confines.
Wenona College, located in North Sydney, was founded in 1886. Over the years, growth in population has led to an increase in demand for enrolments and a need to expand the campus. But the urban location meant that growth is limited to within the confines of the original campus boundaries.
Tonkin Zulaikha Greer was selected after a detailed Design Excellence competition to undertake the most recent renovation and rebuild and have utilised space in a clever way to support the growing cohort, the diverse learning offerings and deliver top-notch facilities.
The new building consists of a STEM (Science, Engineering, Technology and Mathematics) teaching hub, a Sports hub including a swimming pool, a learn to swim pool and associated teaching and learning spaces.
Decor Systems worked collaboratively with TZG as well as Kane Constructions and Goal Interiors to deliver products that met a plethora of needs from aesthetics and acoustic to compliance.
Vogl and DecorLux were specified in this project with both products carrying a Group 1 fire rating and high-performance characteristics that are ideal for use outdoors and in wet areas such as indoor swimming pools.
Damaged panels in the old part of the gymnasium were matched by Decor Systems to ensure consistency throughout and Vogl was specified in a curved design that Decor Systems created prototypes for to ensure feasibility prior to installation on site.
The site was difficult to access, and the product had to be delivered outside school hours, however with constant communication between the teams, this was no problem.
