Radford College
Radford College’s expansion is complete, transforming this leading co-educational institution with many new facilities. The campus enhancements include three new school buildings, a lecture theatre, and a sports precinct adjacent to the oval. This sports area boasts a professional-grade Cricket Centre, a Multi-function Hall, and an expanded Wigg Sports Centre, enriching the college's facilities for students and the wider community.
Designed by Stewart Architecture and constructed by FDC, Decor Systems was selected to provide acoustic wall and ceiling panelling solutions for the Multi-function Hall. As specialists in acoustics for sports halls, our team collaborated closely with Stewart Architecture to ensure solutions that were both compliant with regulations and aligned with the aesthetic vision of the project. Our vast product range meant that we acted as a one-stop shop for the walling and ceiling linings, streamlining specification and procurement processes.
Sports halls face unique acoustic challenges, including high reverberation times, noise build-up from hard surfaces, and poor speech clarity, all hindering communication. Multi-use spaces require flexible solutions to handle varied activities and reduce disruptive impact sounds from activities like running or ball games. Excessive noise can lead to stress and fatigue, highlighting the need for specialised acoustic treatments to create a balanced, comfortable environment.
A carefully curated combination of our products was specified to meet these requirements. DecorZen, DecorStyle, Vogl, and DecorLux were chosen for their performance and durability—perfect for high-activity environments like sports halls.
Each product brings unique advantages to sports hall applications. DecorZen finished in a 2PP Colourbond Aries Metallic, and DecorStyle, finished in our SmartLook Plantation Oak, offers excellent sound absorption, enhancing the acoustic comfort essential in such dynamic spaces. Zen & Style can be made of a fire-rated substrate and is fully GECA and FSC certified, making it eligible for Green Star points. Our DecorStyle, finished in SmartLook Plantation Oak, mimics the look of natural timber to bring warmth to the space.
Vogl panels contribute a streamlined aesthetic while improving sound control. This innovative acoustic product is best known for its efficient and seamless installation, which Parliament Construction expertly installed. They are also crack-resistant and a proven favourite for high-traffic areas. This, as well as its short lead times (Vogl is often in stock and available for next-day despatch), is a top pick for builders and contractors alike.
DecorLux, painted white, was specified due to its robust perforated fibre cement construction. It adds a layer of durability, offering resilience against impact while maintaining a bright, clean appearance. Lux can also be paired with an integrated acoustic backing system that magnifies the acoustic rating to up to 0.90.
The expansion of Radford College represents a significant step forward in enhancing educational and athletic facilities for its community. With Stewart Architecture's thoughtful design and FDCs construction expertise, complemented by Decor Systems' tailored acoustic solutions, the Multi-function Sports Hall now offers a balanced, high-performance environment.
The carefully selected DecorZen, DecorStyle, Vogl and DecorLux products work together to address the specific acoustic challenges of sports halls, from managing reverberation to improving speech clarity. Through these strategic enhancements, Radford College’s new facilities support various activities and provide a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere for students and the community, reflecting the college’s commitment to excellence in form and function. The Radford College Sporting Precinct was also awarded the MBA Award for Commercial Construction in the $5M to $20M category.
