Jindabyne Education Campus
The Jindabyne Education Campus is a unique educational hub that breaks away from the traditional school model. It seamlessly integrates primary and secondary education, vocational training, and community learning programs, creating a dynamic and inclusive environment under one roof. The campus caters to a diverse demographic, fostering a close-knit community enriched by various ages and backgrounds.
The Jindabyne Education Campus, designed by Perumal Pedavoli and constructed by Hansen Yuncken, is a testament to sustainable innovation. The project prioritises energy efficiency and the use of local materials, ensuring that the design complements the surrounding landscape. Sustainability was a central focus, with the design team incorporating locally sourced timbers and eco-friendly materials that harmonise with the natural alpine setting.
As specialists in sports halls and education spaces, Decor Systems was selected to provide acoustic wall and ceiling solutions for the campus. With countless completed sports hall projects across Australia, Decor Systems is well-versed in tackling the unique challenges architects face when designing large, open spaces like sports halls. Sports halls often need help balancing aesthetic design with acoustic functionality, as hard surfaces can lead to excessive sound reflection and reverberation, hindering speech clarity and communication during events and classes.
Understanding the complexity of these spaces, Decor Systems worked closely with the architects to review their needs and vision, ensuring compliance with relevant acoustic standards and building codes. By providing tailored solutions that considered the project’s budget, Decor Systems resolved potential challenges, ensuring the successful execution of the campus design.
The walls and ceilings of the sports hall were fully acoustically treated using our fire-rated MDF DecorZen and DecorStyle panels. Finished in Smartlook Tasmanian Oak, these panels retain timber's natural warmth and beauty while enhancing the sense of space. A custom grey Smartlook finish was selected for the lower panels, adding a distinctive touch to the hall’s design.
DecorZen panels are highly effective in reducing sound, absorbing up to 88% of incidental noise, making them ideal for high-reverberation areas such as expansive sports halls. DecorStyle smooth timber panels have a unique way of expanding the visual feel of a space, making it appear more extensive and open. DecorZen and DecorStyle are excellent pairing for sports halls, combining functionality with aesthetic appeal.
Sustainability was a core focus of this project, and Zen and Style align with these values. Both are fully GECA-certified and FSC-certified and carry Declare Labels; both products are eligible for Green Star points. Manufactured locally in our Sydney factory, DecorZen offers an extensive range of perforation options, edging details, finishes, and substrates, all customisable to meet your specific design requirements.
