St Bede’s Catholic College
With a future-focused learning model at its core, St Bede’s is no ordinary school. Designed by SHAC Architects and built by Richard Crookes Construction, every inch of its design is built for adaptability, with learning spaces that can evolve to meet the needs of students, staff, and curriculum over time. As part of this innovative build, Decor Systems was proud to supply some of our most popular acoustic lining solutions: Style, Zen and Trend.
These products were chosen not only for their superior acoustic performance but also for their design flexibility and robust finish, perfectly suited for a high-traffic educational environment where both durability and aesthetic quality are non-negotiable.
Both Zen and Style achieve a Group 1 fire rating, thanks to our innovative SmartLook™ finishes in Hoop Pine, which beautifully complement our natural Hoop Pine veneer options. These products are not only visually striking but also backed by industry-leading certifications, including GECA, FSC, Declare Label, and Supply Nation accreditation, ensuring they meet the highest standards of sustainability and ethical sourcing.
In addition, Zen delivers an impressive NRC rating of 0.80, making it an ideal choice for spaces where acoustic control is critical, such as classrooms, libraries, and multipurpose learning areas.
One of the standout architectural features of the project was the deliberate decision to use an exposed face-fixing method. Installed by YH interiors, rather than concealing fixings, the design team chose to celebrate the structure’s honesty by keeping screws visible—an aesthetic choice that complemented the raw, robust material palette used throughout the campus and chapel. This decision enhanced the tactile, grounded nature of the interiors and echoed the industrial elegance seen in other key design elements, like the rammed earth walls in the chapel.
In the hallways of St Bede’s Catholic College, our DecorZen in a slot profile was used to minimise high traffic noise, incorporating engraved signage directly into solid Style panels in hoop pine. This approach seamlessly blended functionality with design, providing wayfinding and identity elements that are not only tactile and durable but also enhance the natural warmth and architectural rhythm of the space.
Decor’s products lent themselves beautifully to this method. Our panels provided the right balance of clean lines and textural warmth, working in harmony with other materials to create a cohesive, modern space.
At Decor Systems, we believe in creating products that make a difference—not just in how they perform, but in how they shape the spaces where people learn, connect, and grow.
