Rugby Australia Building UTS
The Rugby Australia Building in UTS, Moore Park is a state-of-the-art sport and education hub. The building is the first facility of its kind in Australia to house national sporting teams alongside one of the country’s leading tertiary education institutions.
Designed by Populous and delivered by AW Edwards, the tight footprint of the land available meant that a vertical design solution was required, forcing some rooms within both the rugby and university facilities that would normally be side-by-side, onto different floors.
Management of acoustics within the building were necessary to allow multiple activities to take place without interruption. For example, students in a classroom could not be distracted by those moving through rooms or playing sport in the indoor hall.
DecorTrend was installed in the building’s common areas, team rooms and breakout spaces to maximise acoustic performance. The unique ability to customise the perforation meant that the DecorTrend panels included custom murals and artworks to promote a sense of community and togetherness within the space. This showcases Decor Systems ability to customise and adapt to any design and application.

The criteria for the acoustics in this project included a 0.70 NRC Rating, impact resistance to allow for panels to absorb 'knocks' in the sports hall, a tight construction schedule and budgetary requirements. The innovative team at Bollig Design in partnership with Decor Systems were able to fulfil all these requirements. Custom coloured SmartLook laminate finishes were used to save costs (considerably cheaper than 2-pac polyurethane finishes) without compromising the acoustic or aesthetic features.
