Patina Restaurant
Patina is the newest dining facility to be built on the St Lucia campus of the University of Queensland.
Designed by DM2 Architects, the new restaurant will operate in tandem with Customs House.
DecorEagle and Cewood have been used to manage reverberation in the space that is set to accommodate around 100 diners as well as deliver catering services to the campus and the wider community.
The Alumni Court occupies a significant place on campus, positioned between the Goddard and Parnell buildings. The location has a strong connection to both the Great Court and the green space adjoining Mansfield Place. Already occupying the site was the Radon laboratory building which was built in the 1950s and due to its sandstone structure and historical significance, it was heritage listed.
As a result, a full Heritage Approval process had to be followed with great care taken through the design and construction process, to ensure the new building respected the original context.
The new Patina restaurant sits harmoniously amongst the heritage buildings and surrounding sandstone campus. Its modern glass facade provides a visual juxtaposition that brings a modern element to the campus.
The restaurant features indoor and outdoor dining options, as well as the capacity to house functions and is equipped with meeting and conference facilities.
