Bellbird Park State School
The Queensland government finished construction on the $85.5 million primary school at Bellbird Park, part of its more considerable $1.9 billion education infrastructure investment. The school features modern facilities, including a multi-purpose hall and air-conditioned classrooms, and aims to serve the growing South-East Queensland community.
The project was built by ADCO Constructions and designed by Deicke Richards, with Conrad Gargett as the D&C architect.
Decor Systems played a pivotal role in the new Bellbird Park primary school project, particularly in the acoustic solutions of the sports hall. Our expertise in acoustics was instrumental in creating an environment that minimises distractions and ensures audibility, enhancing the overall experience.
Sports halls are incredibly reverberant due to the hard-wearing materials they are built with and typically high ceilings. It is essential to specify absorptive walling and ceiling materials to help control this reverberation in these cavernous spaces.
When specifying products for sports halls, architects face several key challenges. Decor Systems excels in addressing these needs with industry-leading acoustic solutions. Reverberation times in a sports or multi-purpose hall should ideally be 1-1.5 seconds. Non-combustible or Group 1-rated materials are mandatory under the national building code. Of course, hard-wearing, impact-resistant and moisture-resistant surfaces are preferred for sports halls, too. One final significant challenge is aesthetics. We excel in providing functional and aesthetic products, so you can rest assured that we will bring your design vision to life while staying fully compliant.
Featured in the Bellbird School sports hall are our DecorZen perforated panels on the ceilings and DecorStyle on the walls, both finished in a Tasmanian Oak Smartlook. This dynamic duo multi-spec is a common pairing for sports halls due to its highly absorptive qualities, absorbing up to 88% of incidental noise, and its sustainability credentials.
DecorStyle decorative panels create calm, inviting spaces that bring the natural warmth and allure of timber inside. Finishing both products in our Smartlook Tasmanian Oak mimics traditional timber veneers' rich warmth and aesthetic appeal, making cramped spaces feel larger and colder cavernous ones more welcoming. Our Smartlook finishes also provide Group 1 Fire Ratings, ensuring top-tier fire safety without compromising style.
DecorZen and Style can also be fully FSC® certified and eligible for Green Star points, reflecting our commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
Our DecorLux panels are also featured in a striking bright green installation on the ground floor of the school's exterior. Decorlux is a robust perforated fibre cement construction that delivers exceptional acoustic performance, so it is perfect for high-traffic areas where superior acoustic properties are needed. It is also mould-resistant and moisture-proof, so it will not rot or warp, making it the ideal solution for outdoor and wet areas such as indoor swimming pools.
Completing Bellbird Park Primary School significantly adds to Queensland’s educational infrastructure. Decor Systems proudly delivers vital acoustic solutions to the sports hall and the school's exterior. With sustainability and functionality at the forefront, this project showcases innovation in both design and construction.

The Heffron Centre located in Sydney’s East is a brand new sporting, community and leisure centre. The state-of-the-art facility is home to NRL team the Rabbitohs and includes publicly accessible areas such as a café, hall of fame, merchandise shop and fan area to view training on the NRL standard showcase field. The centre also provides facilities to cater for netball, basketball, badminton and gymnastics to name a few.
The criteria for the acoustics in this project included a 0.70 NRC Rating, impact resistance to allow for panels to absorb 'knocks' in the sports hall, a tight construction schedule and budgetary requirements. The innovative team at Bollig Design in partnership with Decor Systems were able to fulfil all these requirements. Custom coloured SmartLook laminate finishes were used to save costs (considerably cheaper than 2-pac polyurethane finishes) without compromising the acoustic or aesthetic features.
