Preston South Primary School
Preston South Primary School's new building is a testament to the school's dedication to sustainability and environmental stewardship. Designed by Kerstin Thompson and built by APM Group, the approach to this project’s sustainability goals aligns seamlessly with the school's mission to educate students about the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), integrating real-world sustainability applications into the learning experience.
The design ensures exceptional energy efficiency, significantly reducing the building's carbon footprint. Acoustic panels are a major contributor to a large-scale education project, so carefully considering the building materials used was critical.
The most sustainable product on the market was perfectly specified: Cewood wood wool panels made from three ingredients: wood fibre, cement and water. The strategic incorporation of Cewood wood wool panels in the classroom ceilings and hallways offers many benefits that enhance the spaces' functionality and aesthetics.
Renowned for their superior sound-absorbing properties, reaching an NRC of 0.80, they create an environment conducive to learning by minimising noise and enhancing speech clarity. Available in a wide range of textures, shapes, and hues, these panels allow creative design solutions that complement the school's vibrant atmosphere. Crafted from natural materials, CEWOOD panels contribute to a healthy indoor environment and demonstrate a commitment to ecological responsibility. The robust composition of these panels ensures longevity and compliance with stringent fire safety standards, reaching a Group 1 fire rating - providing peace of mind for educators and parents alike.
Beyond its physical attributes, the new building serves as a platform for broader discussions on sustainability, community resilience, and climate change. It embodies the school's vision of nurturing lifelong learners actively engaged in global conversations, inspiring the school community and the wider public to embrace sustainable practices.
At Decor Systems, we are proud to have contributed to a project that harmoniously blends innovative design, environmental responsibility, and educational excellence. The Preston South Primary School is a model for future educational facilities, demonstrating how thoughtful architecture can positively impact learning and community well-being.
