In addition to its aesthetic appeal, the gymnasium includes a climbing wall and the versatility of separating the courts with a specialty drop-down net. The facility is well-appointed, with changing rooms, storage areas, staff offices, and classrooms surrounding the perimeter.
In recognition of its excellence, this state-of-the-art building received the Best Educational Building $10M—$20M award from the Master Builders Association of Western Australia's Excellence in Construction Awards in 2024, marking a significant milestone in Stage 6 of the project.
Decor Systems was entrusted with the acoustic design of the sports hall, an area where our expertise shines. The acoustic environment within sports halls can significantly impact the experience of athletes, visitors, and staff. Due to the prevalence of high-impact surfaces such as concrete and brick, these spaces often suffer from prolonged reverberation, affecting overall sound quality.
To address these acoustic challenges, Decor Systems collaborated closely with the architects to select the most suitable solutions. The chosen products include DecorZen, Decor Style, and DecorSlat Max, each carefully selected to meet the hall's requirements for a Group 1 fire rating, high NRC rating, and impact resistance.
Featured prominently throughout the sports hall, DecorZen® acoustic panels absorb up to 88% of incidental noise, creating a serene atmosphere even in high-traffic areas. Made from Hoop Pine Plywood and finished in whitewash, these panels effectively reduce noise pollution and enhance the acoustic quality of the space. Paired with our DecorSorb acoustic lining, DecorZen® panels offer superior acoustic performance.
Interspersed throughout the gymnasium, DecorStyle panels add warmth and aesthetic appeal. These smooth timber panels highlight the natural variation of timber, transforming confined or cold spaces into inviting and spacious environments.
Custom laminated beams constructed from DecorSlat Max, featuring a Hoop Pine veneer MDF, provide architectural flexibility and excellent acoustic performance. The lightweight slats of DecorSlat Max deliver a refined look on the panels' trim while ensuring optimal sound management.
Integrating these advanced acoustic solutions underscores our commitment to creating environments that perfectly balance function and form.
The new gymnasium at Mother Teresa Catholic College will enhance the educational experience for students and staff alike. The facility meets and exceeds expectations for modern educational spaces through the meticulous collaboration between Parry & Rosenthal Architects, Castle Projects, and Decor Systems.

The Heffron Centre located in Sydney’s East is a brand new sporting, community and leisure centre. The state-of-the-art facility is home to NRL team the Rabbitohs and includes publicly accessible areas such as a café, hall of fame, merchandise shop and fan area to view training on the NRL standard showcase field. The centre also provides facilities to cater for netball, basketball, badminton and gymnastics to name a few.
The criteria for the acoustics in this project included a 0.70 NRC Rating, impact resistance to allow for panels to absorb 'knocks' in the sports hall, a tight construction schedule and budgetary requirements. The innovative team at Bollig Design in partnership with Decor Systems were able to fulfil all these requirements. Custom coloured SmartLook laminate finishes were used to save costs (considerably cheaper than 2-pac polyurethane finishes) without compromising the acoustic or aesthetic features.
