Macquarie University Council
An unusable space transformed with smart acoustic design.
The Macquarie University Council Boardroom was outdated in design and technology, had poor acoustics and no natural light. It was a space deemed almost unusable. Budden Nangle Michael Hudson, who worked on refurbishments and re-planning across many parts of the University, stripped the space and started again.
Working closely with an acoustic consultant and the Decor Systems design team, BNMH designed a bespoke solution utilising DecorTrend panels in the circular room.
3D acoustic computer models of the space allowed for the new and rather complex design to come to life without fault.
Irregular slots create design interest whilst maximising acoustic performance and custom shapes allowed for the panels to work seamlessly in the circular shape of the room and around windows and lighting.
The result is a space that looks fantastic but also fosters conversation and collaboration.
According to BNMH, “the new acoustic environment where unamplified natural voice can now be used to support clear communication and discussion in the room is now a favoured rather than shunned meeting space.”
What a testament to the power and importance of great acoustic environments.
