Heffron Centre
The Heffron Centre located in Sydney’s East is a brand new sporting, community and leisure centre.
The state-of-the-art facility is home to NRL team the Rabbitohs and includes publicly accessible areas such as a café, hall of fame, merchandise shop and fan area to view training on the NRL standard showcase field. The centre also provides facilities to cater for netball, basketball, badminton and gymnastics to name a few.
Designed by Co.Op Studio, the design was shaped by community feedback and inspired by the culture and people of Randwick. The design approach taken by Co.Op was centred on a philosophy of community inclusiveness combined with social activation initiatives to help develop a sense of pride within the community.
On the first sample submission, Decor Systems presented DecorZen with an engraved Rabbitohs logo on blackcore MDF. As DecorZen has a group 2 fire rating and high acoustic performance, it was the perfect product for the multitude of spaces in the centre. Co.Op loved the idea of the engraving and it remained in the design.
Additionally, DecorSlat was installed with a printed image of a Rabbitohs heritage photo as the backing panel. The black slats were also printed with a Rabbitohs logo which can be seen from either perspective of the back wall in the Clive Churchill Board room.
The results of the customised panels showcasing the Rabbitohs insignia creates a unique, detailed-orientated design that embodies pride and teamwork.
Moving through the space, there is seamless transitions between rooms and a sense of camaraderie depicted by the branding notes in the acoustic panels, which is further enhanced with the brand colours of the Rabbitohs seen in the space.
