Dubbo Base Hospital Redevelopment

At Decor Systems, we are proud to have contributed to the transformative Dubbo Base Hospital (DBH) Redevelopment. This redevelopment project, designed by HDR Architects, enhances healthcare infrastructure for the growing communities of Dubbo and Western New South Wales and aligns with our mission to create spaces that combine aesthetics and functionality.

Acoustics are crucial in healthcare settings; noise profoundly impacts patient healing. Excessive noise levels can lead to heightened stress, anxiety, and discomfort for patients, hindering the healing process and potentially affecting recovery rates.

Noise also challenges healthcare professionals, making communication difficult and leading to potential medical errors. Therefore, managing noise and creating a quiet and comfortable environment is essential to improve patient care and outcomes. You can learn more about sound technologies for noise reduction in healthcare settings here.

Decor Systems are key players in the acoustics of healthcare spaces, so with careful collaboration with the architects, DecorZen in a SmartLook Tasmanian Oak and DecorTrend® in SmartLook White were specified, which played a key role in shaping the hospital's interior design and acoustic performance.

DecorZen is featured in the hallways and high-traffic areas and absorbs up to 88% of incidental noise. Featured in our Smartlook Tasmanian oak finish, this provides a group 1 fire rating and contributes to creating a healing, calming environment. Including natural wood tones and clean, modern finishes helps reduce the sterility often associated with hospitals, making the space more welcoming for patients and their families.

In healthcare settings, maintaining cleanliness is paramount. Our DecorZen MDF panels are engineered with materials that meet the highest hygiene standards, making them an ideal choice for hospitals where sterility is essential. For added protection, we offer the BioPanel ZapX coating at a minimal additional cost. This patented treatment has been proven to eliminate harmful pathogens, including antibiotic-resistant 'superbugs.' Tests conducted on Staphylococcus aureus demonstrated an immediate 100% kill rate, providing an extra layer of safety in critical healthcare environments.

DecorTrend® in SmartLook White offers a sleek, contemporary design solution with a clean, minimalist finish. It creates a bright, open feel, perfect for healthcare environments and other high-traffic areas. DecorTrend® is available with a group 1 fire certificate.

Through our work on the DBH Redevelopment, Decor Systems demonstrated our ability to contribute to large-scale healthcare projects with thoughtful, integrated design solutions. Our use of DecorZen and DecorTrend® was essential in creating an environment that balances the technical demands of healthcare with the human need for comfort and tranquillity.

At Decor Systems, we believe that design shapes experiences and our contribution to the Dubbo Base Hospital reflects our ongoing commitment to delivering functional and meaningful spaces to the communities they serve.

ProjectCanberra Hospital Expansion Project
ProductZen

The Canberra Hospital Expansion represents the largest healthcare infrastructure initiative undertaken by the ACT Government to date. It is designed to address both current and future health needs in the Territory. This landmark project, designed by BVN Architecture and built by Multiplex, features Australia’s first fully electric hospital building powered entirely by renewable energy. This innovative approach reduces approximately 1,886 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually, equivalent to removing 780 cars from Canberra’s roads each year. The new facility, which spans eight levels and covers 45,000 metres, includes a state-of-the-art Emergency Department, an expanded Intensive Care Unit, and enhanced Perioperative Services. Sustainability was a central theme throughout the project, with the Multiplex team utilising electrified cranes, sourcing a locally made low-carbon concrete mix, and repurposing or salvaging 96% of materials from the previous building's demolition. BVN principal Julian Ashton said the major expansion of Canberra Hospital will “unite healthcare and community in an environmentally-friendly wellbeing-oriented campus. Social Procurement also played a pivotal role in this project, with Decor Systems’ Supply Nation Certification significantly contributing to Multiplex's Indigenous Inclusion targets. Maintaining a serene and peaceful environment is crucial for the well-being of patients and staff in healthcare settings. Decor Systems was integral to the project, supplying a range of aesthetic, highly absorbent, and eco-friendly acoustic panels tailored to various acoustic needs. Waiting areas required acoustics that reduce stress, while reception areas required enhanced sound privacy. The selected combination of Arktura, Zen, Zen Micro, and Vogl panels effectively addressed these diverse acoustic and design needs.
