The Belvedere Hotel
Located in Woody Point and boasting one of the best pub views in Australia, the Belvedere Hotel is one of Queensland's busiest food and beverage operations. Being 122 years old, the hotel has seen many poorly considered design changes resulting in a mismatch of spaces.
KP architects were engaged to restore and transform the hotel into a place for locals and visitors as a destination to enjoy the idyllic location by introducing a series of dining spaces that would take advantage of the bay views.
The design strategy focused on removing the many layers of poorly considered additions to reveal the original fabric of the building. The venue was also designed to celebrate the costal location and unique sunset views it is famous for.
The design includes a new cafe, sports bar, gaming area and the addition of 300+ sets, the venue is equipped to handle its popularity.
By adding more open spaces, the building welcomes the outside world inside and embraces the tropical Queensland climate. Slat Create was installed in the ceiling along with Cewood backing panels.
The unique waffle shape of the ceiling opens the space and creates mirage that makes it seem like it goes on forever. This unique design characteristic of Slat Create helps seamlessly transition the inside with the outside, appearing as though there is almost no divide between the two spaces.
The natural timber look slats combined with the natural texture of Cewood complements the white exterior of the venue by softening the harsh look of the built environment.
