Sydney Theatre Company - Walsh Bay
Art for an Arts Precinct.
The revitalisation of the Sydney Theatre Company’s home on Piers 4/5 in Sydney was an exercise in conserving heritage and embracing modernity. This significant space, originally built in 1984, enhances the experience of staff, performers and the audiences.
In order to create visual impact before you’ve even stepped into the theatre, the architects worked with Decor Systems to create ‘the walk’. These walls were clad in DecorMilano to give a continuous feel and an ovation worthy performance. In a sleek customisation, handrails were also integrated into these panels, ensuring no interruption to the visual flow.
The vertical slat and clean white finish of the Decor panelling contrasts beautifully with the original and reclaimed timber that remains from the original build, creating a contemporary take on an industrial past.
