Kununurra Courthouse
A Landmark in a Natural Landscape.
An important project, the Kununurra Courthouse connects a community in the wonderfully wild and geographically remote Kimberley region. The replacement courthouse is significant to the small and very isolated town where it was built. A sense of community and a connection to the natural landscape was paramount to the design serving the residents of Kununurra.
The design is not only acoustically excellent, it is dignified, warm and welcoming. Referencing the jagged rock formations of the region, the jarrah, Tasmanian ash and blackwood DecorStyle wall panels and seating zigzag the undulating peripheral walls in the waiting area.
This use of timber creates a warmth and connection to the natural landscape, which is very much a part of the community it serves.
