Green Square Public School
Green Square Public School & Community Spaces is a landmark educational and community facility designed to meet the needs of one of Australia’s fastest-growing and most densely populated urban areas. Developed in partnership with School Infrastructure NSW and the City of Sydney, the four-storey building accommodates up to 600 students while providing vibrant shared spaces that foster community connection and learning.
Designed by BVN through the 2019 Design Excellence Competition, the school makes the most of its unique L-shaped site, integrating seamlessly into the revitalised Green Square precinct. Delivered by Hutchinsons Builders and Goal Interiors, Decor Systems was proud to collaborate closely with all stakeholders to deliver design excellence, superior compliance, and a visually cohesive result that aligned with the project’s overall vision.
Located on the former Royal South Sydney Hospital site, the facility acknowledges local heritage while contributing to the Green Square urban renewal area as a dynamic, multipurpose hub. The ground floor houses four multipurpose halls for hire, a games court, and the striking Indigenous mural ‘The Belly of the Feast’ by Archibald Prize-winning artist Blak Douglas, curated by Caroline Comino. This artwork draws from historical records of dugong bones unearthed on the site in 1896, celebrating the enduring connection of Aboriginal peoples to Country.
Schools in high-density environments face significant acoustic challenges from external noise pollution to high reverberation times in shared spaces. To overcome this, Decor Systems supplied thousands of square metres of DecorEagle 10CDP30, finished in Smartlook, providing exceptional acoustic control with an NRC of 0.75.
Beyond its acoustic performance, DecorEagle stood out as the ideal value-managed option, delivering superior compliance, ease of installation, and sustainability credentials. Backed by GECA, FSC, and Declare certifications, it provided complete material transparency, supported Green Star rating objectives, and aligned with the project’s sustainability vision.
Proudly manufactured locally in Sydney, Australia, DecorEagle enabled fast lead times and on-call support throughout construction, a crucial factor in delivering a complex project within tight timeframes.
A standout feature of this installation was the Secret Face Fix system, designed for simplicity and efficiency. The groove contains specific landing points that allow installers to screw directly into black MDF with black screws, straight onto the furring channels. This streamlined approach reduced labour time, minimised waste, and eliminated costly re-makes, providing significant onsite efficiencies for Goal Interiors and Hutchinsons Builders.
The result is a cutting-edge education and community facility that reflects BVN’s design excellence and the shared commitment of all partners to quality, innovation, and sustainability. Through the use of DecorEagle, Decor Systems helped deliver spaces that are acoustically balanced, visually refined, and environmentally responsible, a true example of how smart material choices can enhance learning and community environments alike.

Our recent collaboration on the Stage 3 development of Hymba Yumba Independent School is a powerful example of how architecture, art, and acoustics can come together to create something truly meaningful. Working alongside Deicke Richards, we were honoured to contribute to a project that places Indigenous culture and student wellbeing at its heart. As leaders in acoustic solutions for sports halls, our role was to ensure this high-impact environment was not only visually inspiring but also acoustically sound, supporting both movement and learning in equal measure. Central to the project was the integration of Seeds, an artwork by proud Larrakia, Wardaman, and Karajarri woman, Jenna Lee. This piece forms part of our Contours of Country range—an initiative created in collaboration with Blaklash, a leading First Nations creative consultancy, to embed Indigenous storytelling into architectural surfaces.
Preston South Primary School's new building is a testament to the school's dedication to sustainability and environmental stewardship. Designed by Kerstin Thompson and built by APM Group, the approach to this project’s sustainability goals aligns seamlessly with the school's mission to educate students about the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), integrating real-world sustainability applications into the learning experience.
At Decor Systems, we know that great design isn’t just about appearance; it’s about how a space sounds, feels, and performs every day. That philosophy came to life in the delivery of the new STEM building at Mt Carmel Catholic College, where we proudly partnered on a project that brings together innovation in both education and design. As part of a broader masterplan, the new STEM building unifies a range of practical and theory-based teaching areas previously dispersed across campus. With spaces now collocated, including TAS workshops, science labs, and multi-use learning hubs, the goal was to create a contemporary environment that supports hands-on learning, collaboration, and student wellbeing. To meet these goals, acoustic performance, fire safety, and sustainable credentials were all essential, and Decor Systems was brought in to deliver precisely that.
